I was reading a report from the Information Clearing House site, it's a bit old but a very interesting read.
I suppose it's just confirming a theory which many people hold.
In summary it outlines the true story behind the reasons for the war on Iraq. As Bookman points out the "official story on Iraq has never made sense". He suggests that the American plan is to police the planet - in other words seizing full global control and responsibility. The war on Iraq, apparently, is the culmination of a plan which is ten years in the making. It sounds incredible doesn't it.
He cites as examples questions like; why does the administration appear unconcerned with an exit strategy now that Saddam has been captured and why has the administration dismissed the option of containing and deterring Iraq as had been done with the Soviet Union?
He quotes Donald Kagan on the question of America having a permanent/long term military base in Iraq:
"I think that's highly possible," he says. "We will probably need a major concentration of forces in the Middle East over a long period of time. That will come at a price, but think of the price of not having it. When we have economic problems, it's been caused by disruptions in our oil supply. If we have a force in Iraq, there will be no disruption in oil supplies."
"Here in the land of opportunity
Watch US revel in our liberty
You can say what you like
But it doesn't change anything
'Cos the corridors of power
Are an ocean away"
- New Model Army
