It was a really good day today. I spent this morning in a lecture given to us by one of the community dieticians. She was great, really fun to learn from and listen to. It's great to listen to other members of the health care team tell you what their role is about. We don't get many chances to liase with these guys so that was very cool.
This afternoon I spent at the baby clinic working with the Health Visitor. Bonus number one; I got to play with the little kiddies, and boy are they cute. Bonus number two; the Health Visitor got me involved in the assessment of each of the kiddies and was genuinely interested in my opinion and observations. Asking me what I'd observed and what I thought the role of the Health Visitor was and why she did things the way she did. She was great, really great.
My mentor is an angel. She has such a calming relaxing aura about her that makes it easy to work with her and to listen to her. Her patients that she visits regularly love her to bits and I can see why. From day one of my placement she has been completely commited to making my placement as interesting as possible with as many learning opportunities as she can fit in. She has also recognised the coursework that is happening too and fitted in study times for me. I couldn't ask for a better mentor.
In fact I would have to say that all the staff I've worked with and met at this medical centre are fantastic. There is a real sense of team and community here and they work really well together. They communicate with each other and have a laugh. I'm really lucky to have been placed here. :) Shocker, I have another placement that I'm thoroughly enjoying.
