Rory Gallagher Festival

We have just spent the last few days back home in Ballyshannon with my family and during this time the Rory Gallagher Festival was on. It was a great time but I think I must be starting to feel my age because I just couldn't drink at all. I would have a pint or maybe two and that would be it. I'd just feel sick and wasn't able to drink another drop. I also found the mess that people were leaving on the street very annoying. But to be fair, by the next day there wasn't a bit of rubbish to be seen. Very well managed.

The music was fantastic. I could not fault it one bit. There is so much talent back home it's incredible. The variety of people there was also mindblowing. We would be sharing the pub with people who looked like they were very conservative and sensible and then on the next table were a few guys from the biker gangs (all equipped with their patches and outside were parked their lovely Harley's). It was wonderful because despite the contrast in those who attended there was no evidence of animosity or aggression.

I didn't take many pictures because I only had my camera on my nokia navigator with me. But here are the ones I took.

This is a picture of the statue that was launched on Wednesday night. It's a bronze statue of Rory Gallagher that was created by David Annand from Fife in Scotland. Thanks to the Rory Gallagher Festival Committee and Donegal County Council for bringing this fantastic piece of art to the town.

Another view of the statue taken from the side. You will be sick of the sight of this statue by the end of this blog.

Just to give you a little perspective on the size of the statue. Mind you I am only 5 foot tall.

The pictures below are of my sister and her husband and my other half.
