I have a new job!!! Yippeee!!! They called the agency and they want me to start on the 22nd May. Just got to send off the details of referees now.
I will now be working for a company that is in the same town I live in for half the salary that I earned at my previous job. My previous job required that I fly to the client site every Monday and then home again each Friday. As much as I like staying at nice hotels, they do become so very tiring after a few months. I also tried staying at serviced apartments which are rented out to people like me - only there from Monday to Thursday night. That was much better but it was still lonely and not my home.
When I did get home on the Friday it was nearly 22:00 and I was always exhausted. I would have to spend Saturday trying to deal with any paperwork that needed catching up on, shopping for the weekend and then wash, iron and pack my case for Monday. Sunday was probably the only day I had to relax. Monday morning I'd leave the house at 05:00 to get the 07:30 flight or if I was lucky I caught the later 10am flight which meant a sleep in.
There was also the increasing strain on my back from carrying a suitcase to the airport and then from the destination airport to the office every Monday. Then repeat that, in the other direction, each Friday. Each day I would also have to carry my rather large laptop bag which was my mobile office. I had to carry most things I needed each day in that bag as I did not always know where I was going to be sitting or even if I was in the same office/building/town. I did try to minimise the amount being carried but to no avail. It all built up and I found I was increasing the number of painkillers I needed each day. It was very miserable being in that much pain.
So I decided that the pain and the stress was too much and left my job. My final week with them was last week. I had kind of hoped that if I was successful with my interview that they would give me at least a couple of weeks to chill and prepare for the new job which thank goodness they have done.
I may be earning only half the salary but I certainly believe that the benefits will more than make up for it. :)
